Better to rule in Hell than to serve in Heaven.

As far as the Hindu mythology goes, I find the working as well as the management of the Hell far better than the much-a-desired Heaven! And this is neither from a bird's view nor overlooking the big picture.. I stand by my survey and analysis over this topic from both a scrutinized look as well as when putting the tids-n-bits together and looking at it as a big picture.
To start with, an overview of the Chiefs of both these utopias of their respective fields will clear much of a mist.
Indra, much as i despise this chap, I wonder what made the mythologists crown him the king.. and even if they did, why the hell didnt they think of filling him with some courageous attributes and some character to be admired as well!

For as many tales that I've heard of him, he has not only been responsible for the misery but also of bringing ignominy to some impeccant saintly (damn the term "saintly", the operative term is
impeccant) women like Ahilya, the very graceful wife of rishi Gautam, and then going down to the degrading level of accusing her of being the one who tempted him!

He's said to have a thousand eyes..
NOT so that he'll be able to look for any wrong-happening in such an important kingdom as The Heaven, or for similiar boring causes.. but 'coz he had this huge crush over a celestial maiden by name Tillotama! He could not bear to loose sight of her for even a minute!!
WOH man! way to go!

Many incidences call upon when he
ran for help to the Trinity to save his kingdom from one of the demons at some point or the other..
An ideal scenario of his kingdom is where he and his fellow devs are enjoying some dances presented by the beautiful apsaras drowned over some exotic
madira !

Lets sum him up..
He has been only an all mouth and trousers regarding his duties (often running for help), indulging in EVERY POSSIBLE temptaion available
including womanizing and drinkning..
all in all, hardly someone to look upon as an ideal of his field! (Guys - notice.. i SPECIFIED - "of his field".. i know the 'sum-up' appears to be more a cool thing for a few of you dumb creatures.. but what we are talking about here is not of 'that-rich-brat-in-the-bar'!)

Now,
The Devil!
Well, he's (or SHE ?!?! we'll leave this debate for some other time) got the best tunes, for sure..
He has his hand to a T in a way that only GOD can help you when he gets into his business with you!
NEVER has he drifted away from his job.. Condemns people, burns the fire for eternity, gets the craziest and the most briliant ideas of getting you off your track!
Glorifies.. infact, of lately, he has even
Glamourised his job with the attitude that he wears and does his work!

In this era of working, I give the latter
both thumbs up!

disclaimer: this is not to offend any religious feeling of any group whatsoever!
Better to rule in Hell than to serve in Heaven.

now, then!
that makes a good read.
If we set aside the humour and allegories, Indra's existence and rule always looks dodgy even in puranas.

There are so many different versions of puranas which give diffrent reasons/stories about the same event. I have always thought that many of them are stories for the sake of stories...

If we see the stories behind Indra having a thousand eyes, well, i have to admit that i was hearing the reasoning of thousand eyes being 'not letting thilothama's beauty slip away even for a moment' is new to me.
Nor does any of the main puranas I have been through[not a whole lot, i admit again] mention it so.
The version, so far i had heard, was that Gautama the sage, husband of Ahalya cursed Indra for the sin of trying to seduce Ahalya that Indra should have thousand phalluses. Later, due to the pleading of Brahma, Gautama reduces the Curse to Thousand eyes.

Another myth is that Gautama cursing Indra to have thousand wounds resembling female organs on his whole body. Later, through the prayers of a repented Indra, it was changed to thousand eyes.

Whatever the myth is, the question here is that, do we have to take these kind of myths into literal sense? Dont we have to consider them as symbolic representations of allegory for the well being of mankind? hihihi..:) am swimming away from the main subject...

What kind of sicko would create a story about a Deva/god who would indulge in all sorts of adultery and then gets curses of these kind as an example for others?
I believe it is another way of representing things which people of those era would have understood in a different way. Adultery, even in gods, could be punished was the message, I, had taken out of it then and now.

Well, it could be compared to one or two of examples from other religious texts as well.
Arabs, of the bygone era, did not have a means to clean their beards off in the desert. [ its a compartmentalisation.. but I should not go into depths and explain further to bore you, nanha] Religious text of those era would mention having a beard as okay and as a need for people living in desert. If people blindly follow those texts, all muslims should now be walking around with beard. A religious fanatic who grows beard thinking that its a part of religious belief, would fail to answer your question on the reasoning of such an action.

Jesus drives demons out of men and women and drives them onto pigs! why? Couldnt he have let them go to the nether world? There are explanations.

One should have the right mind to break a few prejudices and conventional thinking to tie science and logical reasoning onto myths and derive the message out of them.
Let's try and understand the stories in conjuntion with the society and history and lot many other influences of the era when these stories were written/created. Had it not been to contain a message, sick stories of gods' adultery would not have passed from a generation to another. A generation's society decides what part of its history/myths it needs to impart onto the next generations.

Again, apologies for diverting from a nice humorous article to this big a boring text. But I guess at least i feel relieved to have shared some of my thoughts.
Apart from all this, lemme tell u nanha, I would also give a thumps up to the latter in any case.

I would also like to remind you of the story of srikrishna having 16008 wives..Why he had those many was a question never asked.. and who these wives were. I have an answer, but i wont extend a chance to comment in nanha's page to the extent of writing another story here... she ll kill me. :)

Hey Retarded!
U score 2 out of 3!
BIG – Yes! [nd thanx for ur elaborate opinions.. was pleasantly surprised! : ) ]
Boring – NOWAY! (don’t prove urself retarded by saying tht)
TEXT – Yeah!
Well, now, then!
Quite apt and I'm glad u took the essence in the way it was jumbled inside me..
MYTHOLOGY will definAtely (readers other than nutty, read the word as defiNITely) loose its charm if its taken in its literal sense rather than the implying gist of its arguments. But this is not where i was targeting my assailing at..
Messages might have punctured the chauvinism at least to a minor percent if the heights of taking liberties were not emphasized by some Lord of such of a coveted kingdom like Swarglok.. This era or the previous or the coming ones, the majority of ‘em, the first thing they take down is the situation that EVEN someone like a DEV can have such perverted thoughts – AND imply on them as well - the effect of the punishment drowns as fast as a pebble in still water realizing that he’s enjoying his life back to super luxurious normal one as before!
Who suffered the most? The trauma through her life? The lady!
Talking about a thousand eyes... its not just abt Tillotama who was an exception (the link where u can get an excerpt of the long story is -> http://www.indiaprofile.com/religion-culture/indra.htm (8th Para - to be specific), or Ahilliya on whom he has cast his eyes upon.. the moral, if it was what was intentioned, would have been derived from one such story..
Regarding Krishna, Jesus and the prophets.. I do have a million quests which needs to be quenched.. Guess some day.. over coffee we’ll argue for endless hrs! : )

Voltaire, a well known French scholar and Aetheist, was on his death bed, when a priest came to him and beseeched him to denounce the Devil before it was too late.

Voltaire smiled at him and said, "Considering that I am going to Hell surely, is this the time to make enemies?'

Give the Devil my regards

The Political scenario in the state and country has been openly exposed in the foreign media. Foreign tourist being shot down in our country has created a furor in the World media.....we now unfortunately realize that we have been sitting on a ticking bomb for over 60 years by believing our politicians who claim crime will come down if they are elected. Wake up People, if there is going to be a time for change, it is NOW.
Thank you Neha for Sharing your Views, they are an Inspiration for readers as well as eye-openers.
